Change

Here we are at the beginning of 2024! As each year ends I like to reflect back onto my year. What was good, what was bad and what do I want to change in the new year.

The tradition of New Year's is to create a resolution of change. Something that someone is looking to change about themselves. Whether it is losing weight, going to the gym, eating better, stopping a bad habit, getting organized and the list goes on and on. Unfortunately, a lot of resolutions will start off strong at the beginning of the year and then later on it's no longer important to continue the resolution. Why do you think that it is so hard to keep a resolution? Change is not easy, it is one of the hardest things that you can do. Change is a mindset, and you have to be willing to travel down that difficult road to get to the other side.

About 4 years ago I stopped creating New Years resolutions. I concentrate on a word, a word that reflects my inner need for change. I spend the year concentrating on what change I need to make in my life. What I need to cut out of my life in order for my change to be successful. Being honest with yourself and holding yourself accountable is very important. Accountability is critical with change, it is so easy to step back into your old ways and then you stop wanting to or thinking about the important change you are doing for yourself. Having an accountability partner is important as well. Someone you are comfortable with and can confide in them. Sometimes just being able to say out loud what you are thinking, or if you are struggling will help you get back on track with your goal.

This process is not easy, but for me it has been more obtainable to make important changes in my life. By focusing on one thing to work on, it can also trigger other positive changes in your life. I challenge you to give this a try, and see if it helps you for 2024! As always, I am here to help! Happy New Year!!
